When Poor People Say "No More"

The Cape Fear Massacre
(A Lyrical Requiem) By Sufia Giza

The River ran red and hundreds laid dead. . .Wilmington, North Carolina, November 10th, 1898 That's a date in our history that changed the fate of even my own family. On that day whites started a Race Riot fueled by HATE.

A Racial War, Coup de Tat or “intimidation.” Whatever term you use to describe it Africans faced Government sanctioned Genocidal extermination . . .

As fury fueled by a White Supremacist, one Alfred Moore Waddell, a former Confederate Officer and U.S. Congressman who gave Blackfolks HELL when he proposed to, “Choke the Cape Fear with carcasses,” (Black Bodies that is) . . . Those wicked words spurred the furious lynch mob led by Waddell and his Democratic Gang, as they attacked on sight, forcing Black Men to flight or FIGHT for their life!

Waddell and his crew were pillaging and burning, killing and yearning to destroy all Blackfolks, destroying their status and community. Fracturing both their socio-economic and political unity.

The Wilmington Racial Massacre and Coup of 1898 changed the fate of even my own family. As my Great G-Papa and so many others had to flee, taking control of their own DESTINY. B'cuz, they were betrayed by Democracy and The American Dream.

The Cape Fear Massacre isn't spoken about in any school books on History, so once again white folks schemed and stole not only our American Dream but also took our Identity and Legacy of social, economic and political power in that city.

Wilmington, North Carolina, November 10th & 11th, 1898. Those are dates in our history that changed the fates of so many Blackfolks destiny.

As the River ran red and hundreds laid dead, their Black bodies decapitated
just like their memory in our History . . . Both were washed away by the Cape Fear River, so that no one would ever see or know about their Sacred place in

Our
Story.
